Health­care ac­cred­i­ta­tion as­so­ci­a­tion URAC named Wil­liam Van­der­ven­net Jr. Ver­non Rowen COO and se­nior VP of ex­ter­nal and le­gal af­fairs. Van­der­ven­net, who pre­vi­ously worked for in­sur­ers Wel­lpoint and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, will over­see URAC’S in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy, fi­nance, hu­man re­sources, client ser­vices, and de­vel­op­ment and plan­ning, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. Rowen for­merly was VP of state gov­ern­ment af­fairs for Ex­press Scripts and also has held leg­isla­tive and pol­icy po­si­tions with the Health In­sur­ance As­so­ci­a­tion of Amer­ica and the Amer­i­can As­so­ci­a­tion of Health Plans, which merged to form Amer­ica’s Health In­sur­ance Plans. In Fe­bru­ary, he be­gan work­ing with URAC on an in­terim ba­sis to lead gov­ern­ment re­la­tions ac­tiv­i­ties.

St. Peter’s Health Part­ners, Al­bany, N.Y., named to suc­ceed Dr. James Reed Steven Boyle as CEO. Boyle, 68, who has held the po­si­tion since Oc­to­ber 2011, said he plans to re­tire in Oc­to­ber. He was pre­vi­ously pres­i­dent and CEO of St. Peter’s Health Care Ser­vices, which merged with North­east Health and Se­ton Health to cre­ate St. Peter’s Health Part­ners. Reed, pres­i­dent of St. Peter’s, will re­tain the ti­tle when he be­comes CEO on Oct. 1, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. Reed’s age was un­avail­able. ... Health Man­age­ment As­so­ci­ates, Naples, Fla., pro­moted Dr. Michael Wheelis to VP of med­i­cal af­fairs. Wheelis, 50, will work with emer­gen­cy­room physi­cians across the sys­tem’s 71 fa­cil­i­ties to spear­head the roll­out of a depart­ment ini­tia­tive that will track ER met­rics. He will also as­sist hos­pi­tals with clin­i­cal op­er­a­tions, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. Wheelis is a 13-year vet­eran of the com­pany. He also is for­mer pres­i­dent of the Mis­sis­sippi chap­ter of the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Emer­gency Physi­cians. ... Min­eral Area Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Farm­ing­ton, Mo., named CEO, ef­fec­tive Lynn Mer­gen Aug. 1. Mer­gen, 44, re­places Jean­nette Skin­ner, who left the po­si­tion in March. Mer­gen pre­vi­ously was COO at TMC, Sara­sota, Fla., over­see­ing med­i­cal and chi­ro­prac­tic clin­ics. He has also served as CEO of a num­ber of hos­pi­tals, in­clud­ing Havasu Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Lake­wood Ranch Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Braden­ton, Fla.; and Cen­ten­nial Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Frisco, Texas. Min­eral Area Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter is part of Capella Health­care, Franklin, Tenn.
