Modern Healthcare - - HEALTHCARE’S HOTTEST -

WHAT IT DOES:

Physicians Pharmacy Alliance is a pharmacy services organization that partners with Medicaid, Medicare and accountable care organization and patient-centered medical home programs to provide specialty medication management. HOW IT GREW:

Physicians Pharmacy Alliance’s rapid growth can be traced to the growing concern over Medicare costs, and the move from state-managed programs to privatesector management of Medicaid and Medicare. The company partners with private companies that manage Medicaid and Medicare to help the most difficult patients manage their medications.

“Unlike the commercial population, the Medicaid population is not accustomed to having consistent healthcare, so they are in and out of the hospital and driving up the cost,” CEO Judi Grupp says. “We go to the patients’ homes, do inventory of their medication and work with their physicians to establish a medication regimen.” That regimen, and the alliance’s dedication to helping patients stay on it, helps to lower hospital and emergency room visits and minimize costs, Grupp says.
