28 | CHINDEX INTERNATIONAL
WHAT IT DOES:
Provides healthcare in China through two major hospitals and a series of clinics, and also produces and distributes medical equipment and instruments throughout China. HOW IT GREW:
In a news release announcing 20% year-over-year growth for Chindex in 2011, president and CEO Roberta Lipson pointed to 2011 as “a year focused on expansion.” Chindex’s expansion has come from strengthening traffic in existing facilities and building new ones.
It was a little under 15 years ago that Chindex opened Beijing United Family Health Center, the first foreign-managed healthcare facility in China. Since then, the company has grown steadily and aggressively pursued opportunities to expand, including building the company’s second hospital in Shanghai in 2004.
According to the company’s website, Chindex’s rapid growth can be pegged to the increasing demand for international-standard healthcare in China.
