33 | METHODIST HEALTH SYSTEM
WHAT IT DOES: Provides integrated care to individuals and families throughout north Texas. HOW IT GREW:
In the past five years, Methodist Health System has doubled in size, expanding three of its Dallas-area medical centers and adding family health centers throughout the region. The system’s physical expansion has helped Methodist increase its market share in the surging Dallas market.
According to 2010 census data, four of the 10 fastest-growing counties in America in the past decade surrounded Dallas, and much of Methodist’s growth has come from further expansion into the suburbs.
“While many other health systems across the country have been severely impacted by the overall financial downturn, high debt and exposure to the equity market, Methodist’s longstanding conservative financial strategy has enabled us to execute our growth strategy without impairing our balance sheet,” Chief Financial Officer Michael Schaefer said in an August news release.
