The Amer­i­can Psy­chi­atric As­so­ci­a­tion named to Dr. Saul Levin re­place re­tir­ing CEO and med­i­cal di­rec­tor Dr. James Scully. Since July 2012, Levin has served as in­terim di­rec­tor of the Dis­trict of Columbia Depart­ment of Health. He has been ac­tive with the APA since 1987, and he has served as VP of science, medicine and pub­lic health at the Amer­i­can Med­i­cal As­so­ci­a­tion. Levin will start in mid-July and will work with Scully un­til the fall. Scully, the APA’s CEO and med­i­cal di­rec­tor for 12 years, an­nounced in 2011 that he planned to re­tire when his con­tract ex­pires at the end of this year.


Beth Is­rael Dea­coness Care Or­ga­ni­za­tion, a Bos­ton-based ac­count­able care or­ga­ni­za­tion launched in Jan­uary, an­nounced that will join as its first pres­i­dent and CEO in Christina Sev­erin late June. Sev­erin, whose age was not pro­vided, has been serv­ing as pres­i­dent of Tufts Health Plan sub­sidiary Net­work Health since 2006. Beth Is­rael Dea­coness Care Or­ga­ni­za­tion in­cludes more than 1,700 physi­cians serv­ing pa­tients in eastern Mas­sachusetts. The ACO is gov­erned by the lead­er­ship of the mem­ber physi­cians’ or­ga­ni­za­tions, Beth Is­rael Dea­coness Med­i­cal Cen­ter and its com­mu­nity hos­pi­tals.
