will re­place him. Mont­gomery Rice, 51, was named ex­ec­u­tive VP and dean in 2011, and she will re­tain the ti­tle of dean in her new role next year. In 2010, the More­house board ap­proved a lead­er­ship struc­ture change that called for merg­ing the roles of pres­i­dent and dean upon Maupin’s re­tire­ment. Maupin, a den­tist, took over as pres­i­dent in July 2006. Mont­gomery Rice will be­come the first African-Amer­i­can woman to lead a free-stand­ing med­i­cal school in the U.S., More­house said in a news re­lease an­nounc­ing the ap­point­ment.

Drexel De­Ford left his po­si­tion as CIO of Stew­ard Health Care Sys­tem and joined Dal­las-based ven­ture cap­i­tal firm Next Wave Health as a prin­ci­pal ad­viser. De­Ford, a for­mer chief tech­nol­ogy of­fi­cer for the U.S. Air Force health sys­tem, was board chair of the Col­lege of Health­care In­for­ma­tion Man­age­ment Ex­ec­u­tives in 2012. He was CIO at Seat­tle Chil­dren’s for four years be­fore join­ing Stew­ard in July 2012.
