Dr. Fred­er­ick Azar, chief of staff at the Camp­bell Clinic in Ger­man­town, Tenn., was in­stalled as pres­i­dent of the Amer­i­can Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons dur­ing the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s an­nual meet­ing in New Or­leans.

Azar, 53, is also a pro­fes­sor and sports medicine fel­low­ship di­rec­tor for the Univer­sity of Ten­nessee-Camp­bell Clinic Depart­ment of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been team doc­tor for the Na­tional Bas­ket­ball As­so­ci­a­tion’s Mem­phis Griz­zlies since the team’s in­cep­tion in 2001.

As pres­i­dent, he said he would work to re­fine new pro­grams, prod­ucts and ser­vices in ed­u­ca­tion, ad­vo­cacy, prac­tice man­age­ment, qual­ity, re­search and com­mu­ni­ca­tions.
