Health info management pros do more than medical records

Modern Healthcare - - COMMENT -

I look forward to receiving Modern Healthcare magazine. However, I was surprised when I read the article on AHIMA in the April 14 issue (“Thanks to delay, AHIMA’s ICD-10 summit to focus on ICD-9,” p. 4). It refers to AHIMA as an “association for medical-record professionals.” We are the American Health Information Management Association. We changed our title over 20 years ago. We do more than medical records—we manage information, code charts for reimbursement, perform data analytics, manage clinical documentation, provide ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS training, and are privacy and security officers, just to name a few of our responsibilities.
