Dr. Paul Roth­man, CEO of Bal­ti­more­based Johns Hop­kins Medicine and dean of the med­i­cal fac­ulty, started a one-year term as pres­i­dent of the As­so­ci­a­tion of Amer­i­can Physi­cians ef­fec­tive May 1. He suc­ceeds Dr. J. Larry Jame­son, ex­ec­u­tive VP of Univer­sity of Penn­syl­va­nia Health Sys­tem and the Perel­man School of Medicine in Philadel­phia.

Roth­man, 56, a rheuma­tol­o­gist and molec­u­lar im­mu­nol­o­gist, will still hold his po­si­tions at Johns Hop­kins. AAP, ded­i­cated to the “ad­vance­ment of sci­en­tific and prac­ti­cal medicine,” was founded in 1885 and in­cludes more than 1,300 ac­tive physi­cian mem­bers.
