Dr. Carolyn Clancy, the for­mer long­time di­rec­tor of the federal Agency for Health­care Re­search and Qual­ity, is now in­terim un­der­sec­re­tary for health at the Vet­er­ans Af­fairs Depart­ment.

Clancy, 60, joined the VA in Au­gust 2013 and has served as the VA’s as­sis­tant deputy health un­der­sec­re­tary for qual­ity, safety and value. She will lead ef­forts to ex­pand vet­er­ans’ ac­cess to med­i­cal care as well as re­duce lengthy wait­ing lists for vet­er­ans seek­ing ap­point­ments.

An in­ternist, Clancy was named AHRQ’s di­rec­tor in Fe­bru­ary 2003 and was reap­pointed in Oc­to­ber 2009. She first joined AHRQ in 1990 and pre­vi­ously served as di­rec­tor of its Cen­ter for Out­comes and Ef­fec­tive­ness Re­search.
