Cen­tene Corp., one of the na­tion’s largest Med­i­caid man­aged-care in­sur­ers, has an­nounced ap­point­ments for two med­i­cal ex­ec­u­tives. Dr. Ken Ya­m­aguchi, an or­tho­pe­dic sur­geon, has been named ex­ec­u­tive VP and CMO for the St. Louis-based com­pany. The shoul­der and el­bow spe­cial­ist will con­tinue his work as an or­tho­pe­dic surgery pro­fes­sor at Wash­ing­ton Uni­ver­sity in St. Louis, but in a part-time ca­pac­ity. Dr. Mary Ma­son, cor­po­rate CMO for the past nine years, has been named se­nior VP and CMO of Cen­tene’s spe­cialty com­pa­nies, which in­clude providers of be­hav­ioral health, tele­health and benefits man­age­ment, among other ser­vices. Ma­son is also an ad­junct lec­turer in health pol­icy at the Olin Busi­ness School at Wash­ing­ton Uni­ver­sity.

Dr. Gary Call has been named chief med­i­cal of­fi­cer at HMS Hold­ings Corp, a new po­si­tion at the com­pany, which pro­vides co­or­di­na­tion of benefits and pay­ment in­tegrity ser­vices for pay­ers, in­clud­ing Med­i­caid plans in 45 states.

Most re­cently, Call, 56, was cor­po­rate VP of clin­i­cal pro­grams for Molina Health­care, a Long Beach, Calif.-based in­surer fo­cused on Med­i­caid man­aged­care plans. He held a va­ri­ety of lead­er­ship po­si­tions in his 18 years at Molina.
