West Health, a San Diego-based in­for­ma­tion-tech­nol­ogy re­search in­sti­tute, has an­nounced that CEO Nick Va­le­ri­ani will re­tire in Septem­ber. COO Shel­ley Ly­ford will take his place.

Va­le­ri­ani, 58, has led West Health since Septem­ber 2012. Dur­ing that time, he helped form the Cen­ter for Med­i­cal In­ter­op­er­abil­ity, an in­de­pen­dent, hos­pi­tal-led not-for-profit fo­cused on the ex­change of health in­for­ma­tion. Most re­cently, he helped de­velop the in­sti­tute’s strat­egy for ad­dress­ing the na­tion’s ag­ing pop­u­la­tion.

Be­fore West Health, Va­le­ri­ani worked at John­son & John­son for more than 34 years in var­i­ous lead­er­ship roles.

Ly­ford, 39, has served as COO and pres­i­dent of the ag­ing ini­tia­tive at West Health, as well as CEO of the Gary and Mary West Foun­da­tion, the char­i­ta­ble arm of West Health’s phi­lan­thropist founders.

Be­fore join­ing West Health at its found­ing in 2009, Ly­ford was di­rec­tor of the Cys­tic Fi­bro­sis Foun­da­tion, as well as the Joan B. Kroc In­sti­tute for Peace and Jus­tice at the Univer­sity of San Diego.

Arcadia Healthcare So­lu­tions has named Dr. Richard Parker chief med­i­cal of­fi­cer. The com­pany pro­vides an­a­lyt­ics soft­ware and strate­gic ad­vi­sory ser­vices for or­ga­ni­za­tions look­ing to en­gage in man­aged care.

Parker, an in­ternist, joined Arcadia af­ter serv­ing for 15 years as CMO of Beth Is­rael Dea­coness Care Or­ga­ni­za­tion, the ac­count­able care or­ga­ni­za­tion af­fil­i­ated with Bos­ton-based Beth Is­rael Dea­coness Med­i­cal Cen­ter.
