West Health, a San Diego-based information-technology research institute, has announced that CEO Nick Valeriani will retire in September. COO Shelley Lyford will take his place.
Valeriani, 58, has led West Health since September 2012. During that time, he helped form the Center for Medical Interoperability, an independent, hospital-led not-for-profit focused on the exchange of health information. Most recently, he helped develop the institute’s strategy for addressing the nation’s aging population.
Before West Health, Valeriani worked at Johnson & Johnson for more than 34 years in various leadership roles.
Lyford, 39, has served as COO and president of the aging initiative at West Health, as well as CEO of the Gary and Mary West Foundation, the charitable arm of West Health’s philanthropist founders.
Before joining West Health at its founding in 2009, Lyford was director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as well as the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego.
Arcadia Healthcare Solutions has named Dr. Richard Parker chief medical officer. The company provides analytics software and strategic advisory services for organizations looking to engage in managed care.
Parker, an internist, joined Arcadia after serving for 15 years as CMO of Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization, the accountable care organization affiliated with Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
