UT Southwestern Medical Center is forming a joint operating company with Texas Health Resources.
The partnership will include 27 hospitals throughout North Texas and will expand clinical opportunities by allowing the facilities to tap into the academic medical center’s tertiary- and quaternary-care resources. The two provider organizations will be 50/50 partners in a new company known as Southwestern Health Resources. The deal comes amid a number of similar transactions between academic medical centers and deeper-pocketed health systems. In one of the more recent examples, Banner Health committed close to $1 billion to acquire the University of Arizona Health Network in a deal that closed earlier this year.
