Carson’s ideas on HSAs have plenty of merit

Modern Healthcare - - COMMENT -

Regarding the recent online blog post “Putting Ben Carson’s healthcare proposal under the microscope” (ModernHealthcare.com, Oct. 27), it is inappropriate to completely belittle Dr. Ben Carson’s expertise on healthcare policy with little discussion on the details of his plan. I won’t be voting for Carson, but I believe the broad use of health savings accounts is a great concept and one that can help solve our long-term healthcare problem.

Ultimately, consumers need to bear a lot more of the financial burden and risk of their healthcare. This will make people much more conscious of their risky behaviors. Lots of esteemed experts agree with this concept. Carson’s plan may have holes in it, but don’t dismiss the fundamental idea.
