Who should pay the tab for opioid addiction treatment?

Modern Healthcare - - COMMENT -

Regarding the blog post “Is it smart to be stingy about covering addiction treatment?” (ModernHealthcare.com, Dec. 28), welcome to the latest chapter in the book of “Everything in healthcare should be free all the time,” and its sequel, “Why is healthcare insurance so expensive?”

Related: The question posed is: Are heroin addicts going to think about their deductible and copays before snorting or shooting up? Perhaps not. But a better question would be: Should the average family trying to afford sky- high health insurance premiums be compelled to underwrite the direct costs of folks who choose to use addictive drugs?
