Holtschnei­der leav­ing DePaul to be­come COO at As­cen­sion

New role: Ex­ec­u­tive VP and COO of St. Louis-based As­cen­sion, ef­fec­tive July 1. In this newly cre­ated po­si­tion, Holtschnei­der will over­see the As­cen­sion So­lu­tions Di­vi­sion, sub­sidiaries of As­cen­sion In­for­ma­tion Services and the As­cen­sion Min­istry Ser­vice Cen­ter, as well as the sys­tem’s na­tional strat­egy and ad­vo­cacy func­tions.

Back­ground: Since July 2004, Holtschnei­der has been pres­i­dent of DePaul Univer­sity, a Catholic univer­sity based in Chicago. He over­sees a bud­get of $566 mil­lion and 931 full-time fac­ulty across four cam­puses. He is also a pro­fes­sor of ed­u­ca­tion at the univer­sity. Be­fore join­ing DePaul, Holtschnei­der was ex­ec­u­tive VP and COO from 2000 to 2004 at his alma mater, Ni­a­gara Univer­sity in Ni­a­gara Falls, N.Y. He also has led two na­tional stud­ies ex­am­in­ing trends in gov­er­nance among Catholic uni­ver­si­ties and has au­thored a book on the sub­ject of higher ed­u­ca­tion.

His­tory with As­cen­sion:

Holtschnei­der cur­rently serves as board chair­man of the na­tion’s largest not-for-profit health sys­tem. He joined the board of As­cen­sion Health in 2009 and be­came part of the As­cen­sion board in 2012 as chair of the au­dit com­mit­tee.
