The Senate Finance Committee voted 13-12 to support confirmation of Seema Verma to run the CMS.
The agency is responsible for the $1 trillion combined budgets of Medicare and Medicaid. Verma owns Indianapolis-based consultancy SVC, which helped redesign Medicaid programs in several states, including Indiana. That state’s expansion plan requires residents to make monthly payments into health savings accounts. More conservative expansions like Indiana’s appear to be influencing how the Trump administration sees future healthcare reform.
