HHS hit hard in Trump’s first bud­get

Along with reg­u­la­tory re­form, Pres­i­dent Trump took aim at the fed­eral bud­get dur­ing his first 100 days. He pro­posed a fis­cal 2018 bud­get of $69 bil­lion for HHS, down from $84.1 bil­lion in 2017, rep­re­sent­ing an 18% cut. Among other things, the bud­get blue­print in­cludes:

$6 BIL­LION cut to the Na­tional In­sti­tutes of Health

$403 MIL­LION cut to train­ing pro­grams for health pro­fes­sion­als

$ 4.2 BIL­LION cut to com­mu­nity services, in­clud­ing Low In­come Home En­ergy As­sis­tance Pro­gram

$500 MIL­LION block grant to states for pub­lic health

$500 MIL­LION in­crease of 2016 to ex­pand opi­oid mis­use preven­tion
