The Detroit Medical Center has notified 1,529 patients of a protected health information breach.
The DMC was notified by a staffing agency that one of the agency’s employees allegedly stole protected health information and provided it to unauthorized individuals not affiliated with the hospital. The breach affected patients at a DMC facility from March 2015 to May 2016. The hospital said it has filed a complaint with law enforcement regarding the breach and is cooperating in an investigation. After becoming aware of the breach, the hospital said it reviewed all electronic health records of affected patients, terminated the employee responsible for the breach and implemented changes to prevent further breaches.
