Peter McCanna named president of Baylor Scott& White
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health has created a new leadership position to be filled by Peter McCanna, the organization announced last week.
McCanna will assume his role as president in mid-September, taking on some responsibilities of Baylor Scott & White CEO James Hinton (See Q&A with James Hinton, page 46). In reverting to a co-leadership model first put in place just after the 2013 merger of Baylor and Scott & White, the new leadership position will help the 48-hospital system streamline communication across the continuum and become more nimble, Hinton said.
McCanna has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare management, most recently as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare in Chicago. During his 15-year tenure at Northwestern, McCanna helped grow its operating revenue from $700 million to more than $5 billion.
With total assets of $10.8 billion, Baylor Scott & White is the largest not-forprofit health system in Texas and has been growing steadily over the past several years.
