The Trump ad­min­is­tra­tion an­nounced last week that it would make July pay­ments that help in­sur­ers de­fray costs for of­fer­ing low-in­come cus­tomers more af­ford­able plans.

News that the ad­min­is­tra­tion would pony up money this month for the so-called cost-shar­ing re­duc­tion pay­ments came one day af­ter Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump hinted he may let Af­ford­able Care Act in­sur­ance ex­changes col­lapse. Dur­ing a news brief­ing, White House spokes­woman Sarah Huck­abee San­ders said no de­ter­mi­na­tion has been made re­gard­ing the pay­ments past July. Cur­rently, the fed­eral gov­ern­ment is spend­ing $7 bil­lion a year to lower de­ductibles and co-pays for about 8.4 mil­lion cus­tomers.
