Opioid battle requires sustained, multifaceted attacks

Modern Healthcare - - Comment -

Regarding the article “MetroHealth takes multifaceted stance in opioid battle” (ModernHealthcare.com, Oct. 29), the opioid epidemic claimed 72,000 lives in 2017—a stunning figure. It touches every part of our society. Fortunately, there are strong organizations and individuals attempting to halt this crisis.

Granted there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done addressing stigma, availability/access of medications, overdose, education, prevention and treating the sick (physically, mentally, socially). Each response, like what’s happening at MetroHealth in Cleveland, must be dynamic and multifaceted. Hopefully, more can be done to understand the causes, both personal and social.
