We need a geriatric ED in every community

Modern Healthcare - - Comment -

I recently came across the article “Catering to the elderly in the ED” (ModernHealthcare.com, July 7). As a long-time geriatric nurse, all I can say is this is long overdue. I was always worried when sending my patients to the emergency department as there is a great lack of understanding and insight into older adults. They are a unique population with very specific needs. Just as we have pediatric EDs, we should have a geriatric ED in every community.
