Creating as a couple is a dream come true for Pixiebell owners
Husband and wife join forces in knitting
Christopher didn’t expect his future to include days spent knitting
Through my blog EverythingEtsy.com, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to get to know thousands of online sellers over the years and there are a few “dreams” that I hear about over and over again. The idea of two loving partners both being able to quit their jobs and work together full time is one of the most fervently sought after of them all.
Diane and Christopher Serviss of Pixiebell ( www.pixiebell.etsy.com) have succeeded in this quest and they now work side-by-side making some of the most wonderfully original handmade knit hats to be found anywhere. They personally handcraft their products and ship them worldwide from their home base in Florida.
Pixiebell’s designs are so popular that the shop has had over 20,000 sales since it opened in 2007 and its hats have been featured in print, on the silver screen, and on television.
The son of a policeman, and a construction foreman in a previous career, Christopher might not have expected his future to include days spent knitting. But when shop orders began to overwhelm Diane after the first couple of years, he decided to go for it and hasn’t looked back. He loves the serenity and rhythm of knitting and is obviously quite good at it!
Diane loves the work. In addition to her great happiness at being able to work closely with her husband, she also has found that there is a designer inside her that speaks through her knitting. She talks about it on her shop’s About page: “I have a voice that needs to be heard in the form of woven bits of yarn and string.”
An inspiring couple selling beautiful creations online. Stories like this are what I love about the ongoing and exciting “maker movement.”
The Gnome Knit Hat (shown in green) is a customer favorite.
Watch for Diane’s knitting book in stores soon!
