Sergio Marchionne (1952-2018)

Muscle Car Review - - Up Front -

We learned as we were going to press that Sergio Marchionne, FCA’s former chairman and CEO, passed away due to complications from cancer surgery. Ten years ago, when, as head of Fiat, he announced his intent to take over Chrysler, the news was received with a fair amount of skepticism, especially among the Mopar faithful in the hobby. Yet it was under his watch that both Fiat and Chrysler turned around their stumbling fortunes. There wouldn’t be the remarkable selection of Dodge muscle cars we have today without his oversight, and his faith in his product planners to design and build vehicles for the enthusiast market. “He had the courage to make very aggressive decisions,” said one of his colleagues, quoted in the New York Times.
