Muscle Car Bookshelf

Muscle Car Review - - Up Front -

The Complete Book of Classic Ford and Mercury Muscle Cars 1961-1973 by Donald Farr, 176 pages, hardbound; Motorbooks, quartoknows.com/Motorbooks

That’s a lot of ground to cover in fewer than 200 pages, but longtime journalist and Mustang expert Farr handles it admirably, mixing informative text, sidebars, and charts with contemporary and vintage photography of the cars, and period advertising to show how Ford marketed its muscle. Chapters are organized by body type (“big bodies,” intermediates, ponycars), and Shelby gets his own chapter. Regular MCR readers will see familiar images here, as Farr tapped for photographic assistance the Petersen Publishing Archive as well as our regular contributors, like Jerry Heasley, David Newhardt, Eric English, and the family of the late Tom Shaw.
