The Celebration Continues

Mustang Monthly - - HINDSIGHT -

In our yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Cobra Jet that was launched in 1968, we present this fantastic color shot pulled from our archives, located deep in the bowels of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. The Cobra Jet engine package and resultant car made its initial waves at the 1968 Winternationals, where Al Joniec won Super Stock in his ’681/2 Mustang Cobra Jet. This shot of Ed Skelton’s blue CJ racing Ronnie “Mr. Four-Speed” Sox’s Plymouth wasn’t from the Winternationals, but rather the 1968 NHRA World Finals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Skelton was racing SS/B in his four-speed Mustang, but we couldn’t find any results on this race, hence we don’t know if he beat the Mopar or not—but we assume he did!
