ccording to the United States De­part­ment of Agriculture (USDA), 1 in ev­ery 3 bites of food we take is di­rectly or in­di­rectly af­fected by honey bee pol­li­na­tion. Un­for­tu­nately for both them and us, the last few decades have shown an in­abil­ity for honey bees to thrive due to sev­eral ex­ter­nal fac­tors—most of which can be at­trib­uted to man him­self. Among them: pes­ti­cide use, loss of habi­tat, loss of nat­u­ral food sources, and cli­mate change. How­ever, man is not only to blame. There are many nat­u­ral causes of colony dec­li­na­tion too, in­clud­ing bee pests such as mites and viruses, and poor ge­net­ics. Be­cause
