A live recording of the Young Vic production of Federico Garcia Lorca’s “Yerma” is being screened at the Quick Center at Fairfield University.

Simon Stone’s radical reinterpretation of the play was one of the hottest tickets in New York last season when the production transferred from London. Critics were extravagant in their praise of Billie Piper’s performance as a young woman who is so desperate to have a baby that she resorts to an act of shocking violence.

Stone moves the drama from 1930s Spain to modern-day London. Piper, a rising star in the London theater scene, has also appeared on the TV series “Penny Dreadful.”

The Times of London was not alone in calling the production “an extraordinary theatrical triumph.” The play was recorded in London before the move to New York City.
