Fam­ily holds an­nual drive for needy

It’s time to talk turkey once again.

Dr. Bruce Sof­fer­man of Smile Den­tal Cen­ter is ask­ing Val­ley res­i­dents to make their an­nual pilgrimage to his of­fice to en­sure area folks in need en­joy a hearty Thanks­giv­ing feast.

Sof­fer­man, his wife, Deb­o­rah, daugh­ter, Sophia, and a turkey mas­cot will hold their 32nd an­nual turkey and canned-food drive from 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 14 to ben­e­fit Spooner House and its Val­ley Food Bank.

Sof­fer­man and com­pany will again be sport­ing Pil­grim and tra­di­tional Na­tive Amer­i­can cos­tumes, wav­ing to pass­ing mo­torists to stop by to make a do­na­tion.

The drive will be held out­side Smile Den­tal Cen­ter, 1000 Bridge­port Ave., Shel­ton.

In ad­di­tion to frozen tur­keys, items needed in­clude in­stant po­ta­toes, gravy, stuff­ing, cran­berry sauce, canned veg­eta­bles, pie crust mix, pie fill­ing, evap­o­rated and pow­dered milk, pickles, olives, canned fruit, cof­fee, tea, pow­dered juice mix, nap­kins, sugar, brownie mix, corn bread and bis­cuit mix.

Spooner House Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Su­san Agamy said the goal is to pre­pare at least 650 meal bas­kets this hol­i­day, and col­lect enough food to last into the sea­son.
