Family holds annual drive for needy
It’s time to talk turkey once again.
Dr. Bruce Sofferman of Smile Dental Center is asking Valley residents to make their annual pilgrimage to his office to ensure area folks in need enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving feast.
Sofferman, his wife, Deborah, daughter, Sophia, and a turkey mascot will hold their 32nd annual turkey and canned-food drive from 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 14 to benefit Spooner House and its Valley Food Bank.
Sofferman and company will again be sporting Pilgrim and traditional Native American costumes, waving to passing motorists to stop by to make a donation.
The drive will be held outside Smile Dental Center, 1000 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton.
In addition to frozen turkeys, items needed include instant potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, pie crust mix, pie filling, evaporated and powdered milk, pickles, olives, canned fruit, coffee, tea, powdered juice mix, napkins, sugar, brownie mix, corn bread and biscuit mix.
Spooner House Executive Director Susan Agamy said the goal is to prepare at least 650 meal baskets this holiday, and collect enough food to last into the season.
