Carnival kicks off Thursday

Under the theme, “One Caribbean, One People, One Voice,” the 49th annual West Indian American Day Carnival kicks off in Brooklyn Thursday with four days of music-filled shows and a procession of young masquerade­rs before climaxing on Labor Day with the carnival parade along Eastern Parkway.

This year’s carnival grand marshals include City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito (photo); Guyana Consul General Barbara Atherly; Barbados U.N. Ambassador Keith (Tony) Marshall; and Conrad Ifill, president and CEO of Conrad’s Famous Bakery.

News' Carnival contributi­on

The Daily News, a longtime West Indian American Day Carnival sponsor, is pitching in this year and presenting a “Daily News Hour” on Friday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the “Brassfest” concert on the Brooklyn Museum grounds.

Featuring U.S. Virgin Islands calypso singer Nikkie Brooks and actress/singer Emerald Young, the hour will be hosted by comedian Prince Charming, according to Daily News Promotions and Community Affairs Manager Brian Adams.

The entertaine­rs will be available for autographs and selfies with fans, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., at the Daily News booth after the performanc­es, said Adams.

Casino’s Carib show

The star-studded Trinifly Klimax Concert coming Friday at Resorts World Casino New York City in Queens is proof that the Brooklyn carnival is not the only game in town when it comes to Caribbean entertainm­ent and culture.

Caribbean stars Destra Garcia, Kerwin Du Bois, Lyrikal, Edwin Yearwood, Ravi B, Karma Band, and Nisha B! make up the powerful lineup for the Labor Day weekend show, presented by Trinifly Promotions.

Antigua Carnival countdown

“Caribbean Splashdown” — an energetic and nostalgic event promoting the annual Antigua Carnival and the event’s upcoming momentous 60th anniversar­y in 2017 — will be held at Marcus Garvey Park, Madison Ave. between E. 120 St. to E. 124 Sts., in Manhattan on Saturday starting a 2 p.m.
