Hil team in ’15 panic on Bam emails

- Adam Edelman

TOP AIDES to Hillary Clinton rushed into damage control mode after learning in March 2015 that President Obama had received emails from the former secretary of state’s private email server, a newly released batch of hacked emails revealed.

After seeing Obama say in a TV interview that he’d only learned about Clinton’s server through the news, Clinton adviser Cheryl Mills emailed John Podesta, now the chairman of the Democratic nominee’s campaign and formerly a counselor to Obama, that they needed to snap into action.

“We need to clean this up — he has emails from her — they do not say state.gov,” Mills wrote about Obama in a March 7, 2015, email to Podesta. The email was apparently stolen by Russian hackers and published Tuesday by WikiLeaks.

Another email exchange days earlier, after The New York Times had first reported on Clinton’s use of the server, showed another Clinton confidant, Neera Tanden, expressing shock to Podesta about the revelations.

“Why didn’t they get this stuff out like 18 months ago? So crazy,” Tanden wrote on March 2, 2015.

“Unbelievable,” Podesta replied.
