MILWAUKEE COUNTY Sheriff David Clarke has withdrawn his name from consideration for a Homeland Security post, according to a report published Saturday.
The controversial lawman on Friday turned down the position of assistant secretary, the Washington Post reported. Clarke was slated to start in late June.
Clarke adviser Craig Peterson said the sheriff believes he is of better use to President Trump “in a more aggressive role.”
In May, Clarke said he would be leading law enforcement outreach for Homeland Security, but the White House failed to corroborate his new job.
