A RAGING forest fire in central Portugal killed at least 62 people — many of whom died in their cars while trying to flee, officials said Sunday.

Investigators believe the blaze was sparked by a lightning strike on Saturday night. It was the worst fire the country had experienced in its memory.

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said Portugal’s pain “knows no end,” declaring three days of national mourning.

The fire in the wooded area of Pedrogao Grande — about 95 miles northeast of Lisbon killed at least 30 people died inside their cars as they tried to flee between the towns of Figueiro dos Vinhos and Castanheira de Pera, Interior Ministry official Jorge Gomes said.

He added that 17 others died right outside their cars or by the road, 11 people died in the forest and two people died in a car accident related to the fire.

More than 350 soldiers joined 700 firefighters battling the blaze. A SHOOTING outside a Brooklyn playground left a woman wounded Sunday night, police said.

The 40-year-old victim was standing with her boyfriend on Louisiana Ave. near Flatlands Ave. in East New York, by the Breukelen Ballfields at about 8 p.m., when she was shot, cops said.

Police believe a woman riding in the passenger seat of a car opened fire, striking the woman’s hip. Medics took her to Brookdale University Hospital in stable condition, police said.
