Giants to honor 2007 champs
The Giants are getting ready to party like it’s 2007.
It’s already the 10-year anniversary season of their amazing Super Bowl XLII championship team and co-owner John Mara told a season ticket holders fan forum Monday that the team will be honored at the Sept. 18 Monday night home opener against the Lions. The 2007 team will also make appearances that weekend on the field at Yankee Stadium and at Ellis Island.
“It seems like it was just yesterday,” Mara said. “It was a very special memory. It was the greatest victory we ever had as a franchise. To beat that team, in that setting, will always be the most special for me.”
The Giants beat the undefeated Patriots, attempting to be the first 19-0 team in NFL history, on Eli Manning’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds remaining. It was four players after David Tyree’s 32-yard helmet catch. The Giants 17-14 victory was their third Super Bowl title. They beat the Patriots again four years later.
