WIDE RECEIVERS

-

Darius Powe (35 snaps), an undrafted 2016 Giants practice player, had an encouraging night. Powe made a strong tackle on the opening kickoff, caught one pass for 15 yards on Smith’s first snap as a Giant, drew a pass interference penalty by beating his man down the left sideline on a Smith deep ball, and got wide open in the end zone, though QB Josh Johnson never saw him. Roger Lewis Jr. played the most snaps (41), but Lewis (one catch, 15 yards, three targets) appeared to run the wrong route prior to one Steelers sack and drew McAdoo’s ire for stepping out of bounds to nullify a touchdown pass from Johnson. “Not run(ning) out of bounds before you catch a touchdown would be a good start,” McAdoo said of their red zone failure. Travis Rudolph (35 snaps) made some plays but also fumbled a kickoff return that recovered by Giants linebacker Calvin Munson. Undrafted rookie Keeon Johnson (Virginia) showed impressive speed on a 16-yard Smith completion.
