CESSA HURTING

Injuries had to happen for Luis Cessa to get another shot at a bigleague start, and now Cessa has an ailment of his own. He had to depart the Yankees’ 4-2 win over the Mets on Monday with one out in the fifth with what Joe Girardi termed a “right rhomboid” injury. Cessa is set for an MRI Tuesday morning, but the injury isn’t considered serious.

“When I was facing (Rene) Rivera in the fifth I felt a little bit of discomfort, but I thought I could keep pitching,” Cessa said through an interprete­r. “But Girardi came out and told me, ‘Let me take you out. I don’t want you to do something wrong mechanical­ly to get hurt even more.’”

Cessa said he felt discomfort on his back closer to his neck throughout the game but initially felt he could pitch through it. He was removed after Girardi and a trainer
