Judge bomb, Didi double help Yanks topple Mets

-

The disparity between the Yankees and Mets is clear by a glance at their records and their standing within their respective divisions and leagues. If that’s not enough, the results in this year’s Subway Series have been another indicator. The four-game, two-borough series shifted to Queens on Wednesday but the result was the same as it was the previous two days in the Bronx. The Yankees topped the Mets, 5-3, for their third straight win to clinch the Subway Series. The Yanks (64-55) will attempt to sweep the Mets (53-65) on Thursday.

Didi Gregorius delivered the decisive hit with the bases loaded in the seventh, a two-run double to break a 3-3 deadlock. With the bases loaded this season, Gregorius is 4-for-8 with a homer, 12 RBI and two doubles. He’s 3-for-4 with six RBI with the bases loaded and two outs. David Robertson earned the save for the Yanks with Aroldis Chapman and Dellin Betances unavailable.

It was Aaron Judge’s home run in the fourth inning that stole the show, however, a 457-foot blast that reached the third deck in left field.

Robert Gsellman, who said he didn’t care that Sandy Alderson felt he needed to pitch better — which the GM reiterated Wednesday — returned from the disabled list to make his first start since June 27 and gave up three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Jaime Garcia also went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three.
