When the Mets were in Philadelph­ia last week, GM Sandy Alderson said previously injured pitcher Robert Gsellman wouldn’t be called up because “he needs to start pitching better.”

Asked Tuesday about Alderson’s comments, Gsellman told reporters “I don’t really care.”

That didn’t sit well with Alderson, who offered his thoughts on Gsellman’s statement before Gsellman took the mound Wednesday evening. Gsellman, who had been on the disabled list since June 28 with a strained left hamstring, got the nod against the Yankees after Seth Lugo went on the DL on Tuesday with a shoulder impingemen­t.

“I’m gonna give him a pass on that for the moment, but I hope he reflects on the implicatio­ns of that statement and the potential consequenc­es of that statement and (gives) a better response the next time out,” said Alderson, because Gsellman was pitching later in the day.

Gsellman took a no-decision, giving up three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out two. Afterward he said he sought Alderson out to clear the air.
