Powerball pot soars to $700M
NOW THAT’S a jackpot.
The winning Powerball numbers on Wednesday could make someone $700 million richer.
The jackpot is the second largest in U.S. history.
Lottery officials jacked up the expected jackpot Tuesday, pushing it past a $656 million Mega Millions haul won by three people in 2012.
The odds of winning Wednesday’s jackpot is 1 in 292.2 million.
No one has picked the lucky numbers in a Powerball drawing since June 10 — sending the prize money into the stratosphere.
Despite the head-spinning numbers, the prize remains far less than the record $1.6 billion prize won by three people in January 2016.
The cash option on Wednesday’s winnings would be $443.3 million. Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
