Critically injured in Bx. DWI

A DRUNKEN SUV driver slammed into a parked backhoe on the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx on Sunday, critically injuring one of his passengers, police sources said.

The driver, who the sources said is 30, was headed north on the expressway, near exit 7C in Schuylervi­lle, when he tried to change lanes at 6:50 p.m. and lost control of his Nissan SUV. He crashed into the backhoe, which was parked at a nearby constructi­on site.

A man sitting in the backseat of the SUV, suffered lifethreat­ening injuries, police sources said.

The driver and all of his passengers were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, and he was taken into police custody, awaiting drunken-driving charges, sources said.

The impact pulverized the front of the SUV.A single lane of northbound traffic crawled past the crash Sunday night as police investigat­ed.
