Victim told Durst tale, ex testifies
MURDER VICTIM Susan Berman once told a boyfriend point blank that Robert Durst was responsible for his first wife’s 1982 disappearance in New York, the ex-lover testified Monday.
“You know, Mr. Durst killed his wife,” Berman allegedly said, according to ex-boyfriend Paul Kaufman’s testimony in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Kaufman, 74, said Berman made the stunning statement about Kathleen Durst during a California to New York flight to visit Durst in the early 1990s.
“We were talking about scripts in regard to murder scripts and mobster ideas and people who had done things,” he said. “That was what she said to me.”
Durst, 74, is accused of shooting Berman once in the back of her head in her Benedict Canyon home in December 2000.
Prosecutors say he killed Berman because he feared she knew too much about Kathleen Durst’s fate and was about to speak with Westchester County prosecutors.
Durst has never been charged with anything related to Kathleen, and says he doesn’t know what happened to her.
