Ex-jailer boss loses in bid to nix bribe case

- Victoria Bekiempis

EX-UNION boss Norman Seabrook lost his bid Monday to have his federal case dismissed.

The former Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association president is accused of pocketing a $60,000 bribe in exchange for directing $20 million in union pension funds to Platinum Partners.

Platinum is a defunct hedge fund once run by Murray Huberfeld, who was also indicted in the alleged bribery scheme.

Seabrook, 57, and Huberfeld, 56, face conspiracy and wire fraud charges.

In arguing for dismissal, Seabrook’s lawyers said he was not aware that he had a duty not to pocket “third-party payments,” as union rules did not ban them outright.

“The statute is not unconstitutionally vague as applied to Seabrook here, and the motion to dismiss on those grounds is denied,” Manhattan Federal Judge Andrew Carter ruled.

Huberfeld’s lawyers attacked the credibility of government witness and Brooklynite Jona Rechnitz — a major Mayor de Blasio donor . Rechnitz’s lawyers declined to comment, as did Seabrook’s.
