Manafort slams spy tale

- Christopher Brennan

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S former campaign chairman has lashed out after a report that he has been under federal surveillance, saying that all transcripts of his intercepted conversations should be made public.

Paul Manafort was the subject of a Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant both because of his work for a proKremlin party in Ukraine and communications with suspected Russian operatives, CNN first reported Monday.

The adviser has become a center of the investigations in Moscow’s alleged election meddling and took a similar tack to the President in his response to the report on Tuesday, blaming those who got the information into the public eye.

“If true, it is a felony to reveal the existence of a FISA warrant, regardless of the fact that no charges ever emerged,” said his spokesman Jason Maloni.

“The U.S Department of Justice’s Inspector General should immediately conduct an investigation into these leaks and to examine the motivations behind a previous administration’s effort to surveil a political opponent.”

The original warrant for Manafort was for an investigation that started over his Ukraine work in 2014, but was ended last year, according to CNN.
