Wade gets buyout from Bulls

-

Dwyane Wade’s tenure with his hometown Chicago Bulls is over after one season.

The Bulls and Wade have come to an agreement on a buyout, according to the Chicago Tribune. Once the buyout is completed, Wade is free to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent. The Cavaliers — the clear favorites — Spurs and Heat are the “leaders” to sign Wade, with the Thunder potentially an option as well, according to ESPN.

Former Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony was traded to the Thunder on Saturday.

Wade signed a two-year, $47 million deal with the Bulls in 2016 after spending his first 13 seasons with the Heat. He is returning approximately $8 million of his upcoming $23.8 million 2017-18 salary, according to ESPN.

SPARKS EDGE LYNX

Chelsea Gray’s pull-up jumper with 2 seconds to play helped the Los Angeles Sparks avoid what would have been a stunning collapse and take Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, 85-84, over the host Minnesota Lynx. Gray scored 27 points and Candace Parker added 15 points and 12 boards for the Sparks, the defending champs who joined their NFL brethren by sitting out the national anthem.

The Sparks led 28-2 in the first quarter and 78-66 with five minutes to play. Maya Moore scored 27 points and Sylvia Fowles had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Lynx, who roared back from that 26-point hole to take an 84-83 lead with 6.5 seconds to play.

THOMAS WINS FED-EX CUP

Justin Thomas is the FedEx Cup champion, a surprise to no one who saw him power his way to scoring records, his first major at the PGA Championship and more PGA Tour victories than anyone this season. Standing next to him at the trophy ceremony was Xander Schauffele, who never imagined being at the Tour Championship, much less winning it.

Both put on quite a show at East Lake in Atlanta. Schauffele, a 23-year-old rookie from San Diego capped off an amazing summer with four par saves on the back nine when he couldn’t afford to drop a shot. He closed out his 2-under 68 by swirling in a 3-foot birdie putt for a one-shot victory over Thomas.
