GOV. CUOMO ordered over 100 additional state troopers and other emergency personnel Friday to help with urgent Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

The team of Empire State experts includes 72 Port Authority emergency personnel, 53 state troopers and 10 generation experts who will assist with restoration of electricity on the island.

The Port Authority crew will help restore operations at San Juan International Airport and the Port of San Juan, among other duties. The State Police will protect and distribute fuel and food.

“I am proud these fine New Yorkers have answered the call to help our fellow Americans in their moment of need,” Cuomo said.

Hurricane Maria caused unprecedented devastation on the U.S. territory of 3.4 million people. Many Puerto Ricans remain without water, gas or generator fuel due to the Category 4 hurricane that hit Sept. 20.
