IN ONE SHORT, EMBARRASSING VISIT TO PUERTO RICO, PRESIDENT TRUMP: BLAMING PUERTO RICANS FOR SLOW AID DELIVERY: (95% OF ISLAND STILL HAS NO POWER) ON COST OF RECOVERY WORK:

THOUSANDS OF evacuees from Puerto Rico and other islands devastated by Hurricane Maria arrived in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, many welcomed by relieved family members.

The Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Sea carried more than 3,800 evacuees and arrived at the port in the morning. The ship had canceled a Saturday cruise to deliver food, water, and medical supplies to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Croix and St. Thomas before picking up evacuees and heading to Florida.

Wanda Collazo was anxiously waiting for her 78-year-old mother Marta Collazo at the terminal. She managed to communicate with her two brothers in Puerto Rico and worked to help get their mother onto the cruise ship to South Florida.

Though she was reunited with her daughter, Marta Collazo couldn’t help but think about her sons back home.

“I have two sons still there, and they are having a hard time. It looks like an atomic bomb fell there — it’s destroyed,” she told the Miami Herald. “But when I saw (my daughter) it was like my heart was going to come out of my chest.”

She told the paper she plans to stay in Florida until the power on the island was restored.

The ship is scheduled to head back to San Juan on Saturday with much needed supplies, the Herald reported. NEW YORK is sending more medical supplies and equipment to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.

In announcing the shipment, which was being delivered by a plane leaving from Westchester County Airport, Gov. Cuomo noted Tuesday that many of the island’s hospitals are operating on generators running short on supplies.

The state medical community was shipping out about $500,000 worth of equipment and supplies like bandages, Cuomo said, and is readying to deploy about 100 doctors and 200 nurses to the island to offer assistance.

He chastised President Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for not being better prepared in advance of the storm.
