Murder takes a huge drop in September
CRIME IN New York City is on the steady decline, NYPD officials said Tuesday.
Police saw a huge drop in murders and shootings in September.
The massive reduction in violence has left the city with nearly 25% fewer homicides this year compared to a year ago, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill (inset) said.
There were 19 last month, down from 34 in September 2016. There were also 30 fewer shooting incidents, with 78 last month, down from 108 in September 2016.
There were also 458 fewer felony crimes investigated, cops said. Transit crimes also dropped by 11% last month when compared to last year.
Still, the NYPD did see reported rape numbers increase last month — climbing to 117, compared to 113 last September.
Cops did see reductions in robberies, burglaries and grand larcenies.
