Teacher rap in sex with boy
A BROOKLYN high school teacher has been arrested after monthslong sexual abuse of a student, police sources said Tuesday.
Mervyn Affoon, 52, a business teacher at the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism in Flatbush, grabbed the then-16-year-old boy’s groin after class in February, the sources said. The student was taken aback and resisted, and Affoon apologized and asked him not to tell anyone, sources said.
A week later, Affoon groped the teen in an elevator, according to the sources. The boy didn’t object and allegedly later met Affoon several times at the teacher’s East Flatbush apartment for sex, beginning in March. The teen was not legally old enough to give consent.
After each encounter, Affoon gave the boy money for food, about $400 in total, sources said. On Sunday, the student, now 17, told his parents about the abuse.
Police arrested Affoon Tuesday, charging him with forcible touching, sex abuse, criminal sex act and acting in a manner injurious to a child. Bail was set at $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash.
