Union: He dropped ball

THE NYPD’S detectives union is blasting Manhattan DA Cy Vance Jr. for tossing what cops say was a viable case against Harvey Weinstein in 2015.

“Special victims detectives went the extra mile and the Manhattan district attorney had more than sufficient evidence to prosecute,” Detectives Endowment Association President Michael Palladino said in a statement Friday. “So it’s unacceptable to see Cy Vance try and punt blame to our detectives.”

Police brought a case against Weinstein for allegedly assaulting Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, who claimed that the “Good Will Hunting” producer had groped her during a meeting at his Tribeca office in 2015.

Battilana Gutierrez agreed to wear a wire for NYPD detectives. Weinstein admitted groping her in an audio recording posted online by the New Yorker earlier this week.

Despite the complaint by Battilana Gutierrez and the recording, Vance’s office did not press charges against Weinstein, insisting that police botched the investigation.
